Dual Language Partner School

Cedarhurst is a partner to White Center Heights Elementary for the Vietnamese dual language program and the Somali Enrichment Program (K-3). 

Cedarhurst students can request enrollment in the White Center Heights Elementary with transportation provided.  

Students in dual language receive 50% of their instruction in English and 50% in Vietnamese and are taught by qualified bilingual teachers. The program includes students who are native speakers of English, Spanish, Vietnamese and many other languages. 

Elementary students learn reading and writing in both languages, math in English, science and health in Vietnamese and social studies in English and Vietnamese. 

Students enrolled in the Somali Enrichment Program receive 30-60 minutes of Somali language learning during the school day. For the remainder of the school day, students will have English instruction.       

Goals

The goals of the dual language program are to help students: 

  • Become bilingual and biliterate. 
  • Achieve at high levels academically in BOTH languages 
  • Develop sociocultural competence 
  • Develop critical consciousness 

Vietnamese Dual Language Program and Somali Enrichment Program  

Cedarhurst students can request enrollment at  White Center Heights Elementary for the Vietnamese Dual Language Program or the Somali Enrichment Program (K-3) with transportation provided by following these steps:  

  • Complete the online enrollment process through ParentVUE which will enroll your student in their assigned neighborhood school   
  • Submit a Transfer Request Form.  Transfer Request Form
